Last Book I Bought: La démographie québécoise: Enjeux du XXIe siècle, a collection of writings on Québec demographics edited by Victor Piché and Céline Le Bourdais.

Last Book I Read: I'm currently reading The Great Disruption: Human Nature and the Reconstitution of Social Order by Francis Fukuyama and César imperator by Max Gallo.

Five Books that mean a lot to me:

1. Frédéric Bastiat. This is not strictly speaking a book, but Government, The Law and What is Seen and What is Not Seen led me to classical liberalism.
2. Globalization and the meaning of Canadian life by William Watson. This book discusses the nature of Canadian identity and how it is affected, or not affected, by globalization, ties with the United States and economic and social policies. It shatters a lot of myths about Canada and the United States.
3. Canada's Founding Debates. More than 400 pages of excerpts from the key debates which led to Confederation in 1867.
4. You Can't Say That!: The Growing Threat to Civil Liberties from Antidiscrimination Law by David Bernstein. There is a cliché according to which the Left wants to take away economic liberties whereas the Right threatens civil and personal liberties. This book shows how an utopian egalitarianism from the Left is undermining civil and personal liberties like freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of association.
5. The Future of Freedom: Illiberal Democracy at Home and Abroad by Fareed Zakaria. On how a robust civil society, free markets and respect for individual rights is a precondition for the formation of a stable democracy, and not the other way around.

Cinq livres qui ont une grande signification pour moi:

1. Frédéric Bastiat. Ce n'est pas à strictement parler un livre, mais L'État, La Loi et Ce qu'on voit et ce qu'on ne voit pas m'ont mené au libéralisme classique.
2. Globalization and the meaning of Canadian life de William Watson. Ce livre discute de l'identité canadienne et de comment elle est affectée ou non par la mondialisation, les liens avec les États-Unis ainsi que les politiques économiques et sociales. Il brise beaucoup de mythes sur le Canada et les États-Unis.
3. Débats sur la fondation du Canada. Plus de 400 pages d'extraits des débats-clés qui ont mené à la Confédération en 1867.
4. You Can't Say That!: The Growing Threat to Civil Liberties from Antidiscrimination Law de David Bernstein. Il y a un cliché selon lequel la gauche veut éliminer les libertés économiques alors que la droite menace les libertés civiles et personnelles. Ce livre montre comment un égalitarisme utopique venant de la gauche mine des libertés civiles et personnelles telles que la liberté d'expression, la liberté de religion et la liberté d'association.
5. The Future of Freedom: Illiberal Democracy at Home and Abroad de Fareed Zakaria. Explique comment une société civile robuste, des marchés libres et un respect pour les droits individuels sont une précondition à la formation d'une démocratie stable, et non vice versa.
