This oddly reminds me of the shoplift committed in an Eaton in 1982 by Claude Charron, then a minister in the provincial government. Claude Charron, like Svend Robinson, is homosexual and had been subjected to a lot of pressure the preceding year by being implicated in a (later disproved) pornography scandal where it was alleged he was filming pornographic videos with young teen boys in his MNA office (at the time, homosexuality was still regularly perceived as being associated with pedophilia) After the shoplift, Claude Charron resigned from his ministerial functions and then quit politics some months later. Ça me rappelle étrangement le vol à l'étalage commis en 1982 dans un Eaton par Claude Charron, alors ministre dans le gouvernement provincial. Claude Charron, comme Svend Robinson, est homosexuel et il avait subi beaucoup de pression l'année précédente en étant impliqué dans un scandale pornographique (par la suite réfuté) où on prétendait qu'il tournait des films pornographiques avec de jeunes adolescents dans son bureau de député (à l'époque, l'homosexualité était régulièrement perçue comme étant associée à la pédophilie) Après le vol à l'étalage, Claude Charron a démissionné de ses fonctions ministérielles pour quitter la politique quelques mois plus tard. N'oublions pas non plus Lorne Nystrom (NPD) qui s'était fait prendre en flagrand délit de vol à l'étalage dans une pharmacie de la rue Sparks à Ottawa.
