| When I read this column by William Watson on Stephen Harper (also available here), I realized a fact that had escaped me until now: Stephen Harper is an economist. This is excellent news: we will maybe at last have a Prime Minister that understands how the economy works.
(Note: ex-CEOs do not necessarily fit in this category. Businesspeople are generally good at understanding how a company works and its proximate economic environment, but they do not have the global vision of the whole economy for which economists are trained.) | Lorsque j'ai lu cette chronique de William Watson sur Stephen Harper (aussi disponible ici), je me suis rendu compte d'un fait qui m'avait échappé: Stephen Harper est un économiste. C'est une excellente nouvelle: on va peut-être enfin avoir un premier ministre qui comprend comment l'économie fonctionne.
(Note: les ex-PDG n'entrent pas nécessairement dans cette catégorie. Les gens d'affaires sont généralement bon pour comprendre comment une compagnie fonctionne ainsi que son environnement économique immédiat, mais ils n'ont pas la vision globale de l'économie entière pour laquelle on forme les économistes.) |
