| What would you do if you were a former Minister caught in the center of a scandal of corruption and waste of public funds?
Try this: claim to be a victim of xenophobia: Alfonso Gagliano claims he has been singled out as a target in the sponsorship scandal simply because he is the first politician of Italian origin to have been chosen as political lieutenant for Quebec.Note quite convincing (especially since he claims to be completely innocent: he quotes Jean Chrétien who called him on March 6 to tell him "that he never thought for a minute that I had done anything wrong") However, I agree with Gagliano on one thing: there is no reason to scapegoat him and to imagine he is the sole person responsible for these shenanigans. There are a lot of people in Ottawa and in the federal government that were either implicated directly in this or complacently turned a blind eye.
