This book describes how Ronald Reagan fought communism, beginning in the 1940s and 1950s inside the film industry in Hollywood which communists were trying to infiltrate and ending in his presidential mandates when he declared the Soviet Union was an evil empire. The chairman of the Polish movement Solidarnosc went as far as saying that "Reagan was the main author of the victory of the free world over the 'evil empire'".
Eugene Volokh reports an ingenuous CIA plan approved by Reagan in 1982. It was then known the Soviet Union, which had become technologically backward, sought to steal a large variety of Western technologies. The CIA arranged things so that the USSR would obtain the technologies she was looking for... but with hidden defects! Result: a stolen software for pipeline control triggered the explosion of a major natural gas pipeline in the USSR.
