| Ase reports some interesting information: the real Last Samuraï was not an American soldier (as in the new Last Samuraï movie), but a French artillery captain, Jules Brunet. Brunet had been sent by the government of Emperor Napoléon III to support the Tokugawa Shogun who was battling against the Meiji Emperor who was assisted by American and British advisers. When the Shogun was defeated, Brunet contributed to the establishment of the short-lived Hakodate Republic.

Brunet avait été envoyé par le gouvernement de l'Empereur Napoléon III pour soutenir le shogun Tokugawa qui combattait alors l'Empereur Meiji qui était assisté par des conseillers américains et britanniques. Lorsque le shogun a été défait, Brunet a contribué à l'établissement de l'ephémère République d'Hakodate.
